Die skrif is Aan Die Muur

South Africa, I am writing you a letter. One that has been written before. One that is etched on a bathroom wall like a confession of love by a teenage girl. I am sorry. It might not be legible.

Die Skrif Is Aan Die Muur is a live art, installation piece that scribes an immersive and participatory performative letter to South Africa. The piece invites audience members to perform in reaction to the writing on the wall, by writing down their own reflections, thoughts and frustrations towards South Africa. Throughout the piece, Kanya Viljoen explores the notions of privilege of space, race, gender and culture within the South African paradigm.
