The Moment of Dying

Screen Shot 2021-02-11 at 07.17.22.png

“A moment of dying starts as soon as the fish is removed from the water.

And it’s not fast.

It’s not an instant moment where they move from being alive, to being dead.

It takes time.

The lungs need to fail.

The body needs to convulse and fight.

It takes time.

To die.”

Five women find themselves in a public bathroom in Cape Town, South Africa, some occupying the stalls while others wait to use it. In a shared private moment, thoughts start to emerge about the ‘otherness’ found within our own bodies and how we perceive them in these vulnerable spaces, whilst gazing upon the bodies around us as well. This experimental short seeks to question the notion around how we ‘wear’ our bodies and how women stand in relation to other women as well as their own skin.
