Kanya often writes reviews, opinion pieces, prose and poetry for a number of publications, including Litnet, Voertaal, Klyntji and Ja. Magazine.
Furthermore, Kanya’s poetry has been published in Ons Klyntji (2018 – 2020) and her writing has formed a part of a local podcast series, The Story Animal. Her writing has also been featured in Between the Pillar and the Post: an anthology of South African monologues and scenes published by the Market Theatre.
Kanya works as a creative writer, director and facilitator in and around Cape Town, South Africa. This includes lecturing and facilitating at the Centre for Theatre Dance and Performance Studies at the University of Cape Town; Act Cape Town Film Acting Academy; the Zabalaza Theatre Festival and the Department of Culture, Arts and Sport’s Drama Festival. She served as the Creative Director of UCT’S Inter Residential Theatre Festival and formed a part of the Baxter Theatre’s Radio Project. She was selected as a Business and Arts in South Africa Scale-Up Participant and has presented research and writing at various national and international conferences.
